The Night Cat & Astral People Proudly Presents...
Corto.Alto
When it comes to the summit of contemporary jazz, the UK sits firmly at the peak - and Glasgow’s corto.alto is the latest act to ascend.
The brainchild of multi-instrumentalist, producer and composer Liam Shortall, corto.alto is fast becoming one of the UK jazz scene’s most forward-thinking voices.
Championed by tastemakers like Gilles Peterson, the project blends jazz, broken beat, dub, and electronic production into a live show that’s as genre-defying as it is electrifying.
“If Hiatus Kaiyote and Masters At Work had a child, corto.alto would be it — the future is now,” says Gilles Peterson.
This November, corto.alto makes his Australian debut, with headline dates in Melbourne and Sydney, as well as a very special appearance at Strawberry Fields.
Fresh off a monumental 12 months, the project lands in Australia riding the wave of acclaimed debut album Bad With Names - shortlisted for the 2024 Mercury Prize, winner of Best Album at the Scottish Jazz Awards, and crowned UK Jazz Act of the Year at the 2025 Jazz FM Awards, alongside peers like Ezra Collective and Nubya Garcia.
Raised on traditional jazz and shaped by the internet age, Shortall's live show brings a razor-sharp ensemble of the UK’s most exciting young players to the stage - weaving free-flowing improvisation with broken beat bounce and bass-heavy grooves.
