Hearty Arty July! at Brunswick Artists' Bar
The Rayes are bringing together music, community, and multi-media art for "Hearty Arty July!" on Wednesday nights at Brunswick Artists' Bar. Join Naarm's finest local bands and special guest artists for wholesome evenings of performances and coming together with friends during this troubling time in the world. Fight the winter blues and help us muster up the essence of a big, hearty bowl of soup by bringing your dancing shoes, thoughtful conversations, and joyous friends!
If nostalgia starred in a late summer 70s film, its soundtrack would feature The Rayes. Emotive, and at times haunting – their distinctive sound elicits something hard to label but easy to feel. Superimposing lilting harmonies and melodic basslines, the Melbourne-based, Seattle-born group recalls themes of identity, yearning, and witty reflection to sweeping emotion. The band is led by sisters, Jordan and Rebecca Stobbe, whose vocals and harmonies have been compared to Joni Mitchell, Fleetwood Mac, and the Indigo Girls. The Rayes are, ‘translucent honesty cloaked in classic folk rock harmonies,’ (American Songwriter), imparting a sound both spirited and endearing.
Amelia Adler is a singer songwriter living in Melbourne/Naarm. A career thus far spanning multiple continents and genres, Amelia takes audiences through her life like friends, taking influence from songwriters such as
Mitski and Sharon Van Etten. Sincere, candid, stories of love, solidarity and friendship told through weaving melodies and a vibrato that's already broken a few hearts will have you in tears of sadness and laughter.
These are free shows. Donations are welcomed each night supporting APAN (Australia Palestine Advocacy Network).
