SIMA × The Vanguard presents: In Residence with Cracked Suzies
A collaboration between SIMA and The Vanguard, ‘In Residence’ highlights the sound of Sydney music by presenting some of the city’s most distinctive creative voices in performance over the course of a month. Across weekly shows audiences are allowed to witness the construction, development and refinement of a musical conversation between some of the Sydney’s most iconoclastic artists.
Cracked Suzies is the creative project of Sydney jazz drummer Abby Constable. Having developed a reputation as one of Sydney’s most exciting young drummers and collaborators, Constable’s music blends the raw energy of early jungle and dubstep beats with freedom and energy of jazz. In both her music and visual art, there is a sophisticated understanding of darker spectrums of sound and emotion. Her drumming is rooted in a profound understanding of swing, while being deeply inspired by Latino rhythms she has learnt from her time spent in Brazil and Colombia.
In this special collaboration she will be presenting her trio featuring Lux Trevis on synth bass/flute and Zigi Blau on keys/synths.
